HENRY SCHOLTEN
(1868 - 1949)

Henry Scholten, 81, of 1126 South Eighth street, a former local merchant, died late Wednesday at Wisconsin General hospital in Madison following a brief illness. Mr. Scholten had been taken to the Madison hospital about a week ago.

Funeral services will be held at 8 a.m. Saturday at the Pfeffer funeral home and at 9 o'clock at St. Boniface Catholic church with the Rev. Earl Brouchoud officiating. Burial will be in Calvary cemetery.

A son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Henry Scholten Sr., the deceased was born in the village of Manitowoc Rapids in 1868. In 1898, in partnership with two of his brothers, Mr. Scholten opened a general store on Jay street here. He was active in that business for a number of years until his retirement.In 1898 he married the former Clara Schindler who preceded him in death 11 years ago.

Only survivors are a son, Fred of this city, and Henry Steiner also of Manitowoc.

The body may be viewed at the Pfeffer funeral home from Friday noon until the hour of services Saturday morning. The rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Friday.
