Two Soldiers of County Dead; Toll In War II Now 16

War department telegrams yesterday brought news of the death of two more soldiers from Manitowoc and vicinity and raised the county casualties in World War II to 116.

The dead:
Pvt. Sylvester J. Siehr, 23, son of Mr. and Mr.s Ivan Siehr, of 1413 South 17th street, city.
T/5 Ambrose G. Stedl, 24, son of Mr. and Mrs. Matt Stedl, of Greenleaf, Brown county.

Private Siehr, who was a gunner on an army tank invading Germany, was killed in the fighting on the western front March 18 according to a message received by his wife, the former Marjorie Vogel, at her home in Whitelaw, where she is living with two small children. The telegram followed by only a few hours two letters which Mrs. Siehr received from her husband written on the western front March 14 just before he went into battle.

Private Siehr was born in Manitowoc and attended Lincoln high school and later the Vocational school. He was employed at the Eastman Manufacturing company until entering the service in June, 1944. He went overseas from Ft. Meade last December.

He married Marjorie Vogel of Whitelaw in 1942. She survives with two sons, David and Wayne; parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Siehr of this city; brother, Victor of route 1, Maribel; and grandparents Mrs. John Zipperer of Whitelaw and Peter Siehr of route 1, Mishicot.

A requiem mass will be said at 9 o'clock next Thursday morning, April 5, at St. Andrews Catholic church, the Rev. Henry Letz officiating. This date will be Private Siehr's 24th birthday anniversary.
