Mrs. Cecelia Simon, 74, wife of the late Dr. Herman A. Simon, pioneer Manitowoc dentist and merchant, died this morning at the Holy Family hospital.

Mrs. Simon had been residing with a daughter, Mrs. L.A. Hanson of 833A South Eighth street, with mother and daughter operating a gift shop the past two years. Funeral plans are incomplete and will be announced Wednesday.

Born Cecelia Freiman in Luxemburg, Keewaunee county in 1874, she was married to Dr. Simon in Gesu church, Milwaukee, in 1903 and they came to this city, where Dr. Simon opened a dental office. In 1907 Dr. and Mrs. Simon took over the millinery store on South Eighth street which had been operated by his mother since 1880. The business was expanded to include dresses and the Simons operated the business until 1937. Dr. Simon died in 1939. Two years ago, Mrs. Simon joined her daughter in operation of the gift shop on the second floor of the business place on South Eighth street.

Survivors are five daughters, Mrs. George Eiche and Mrs. Floyd McKieranan of Tucson, Ariz., Mrs. S. W. Sorenson of Cincinnati, Mrs. L. A. Hanson of this city and Miss Mary Simon of Minneapolis; two sons, Dr. George Simon of this city and Henry of Los Angeles; brother, John of Oneida, Wis.; two sisters, Miss Mayme Freiman and Mrs. Art Gotto of Green Bay; 11 grandchildren and a great grandchild. A son, John, died in 1937.
