ARTHUR K. TYNER
(1923 - 2004)

Arthur Kerwin Tyner, 81, of Beaver Dam, Wis., died Saturday, Nov. 6, at Hillside Manor in Beaver Dam. He died of Parkinson's disease, according to his family.

Mr. Tyner was a former Greenwich resident and teacher at Brunswick School. Born Aug. 21, 1923, in Winfield, Kan., he was a son of the late Rev. George St. George and Ethel Katherine Holmquist Tyner. He was raised in Omaha, Neb., and graduated from the Georgetown University School of Foreign Service, where he earned a bachelor's degree in European history.

During World War II, Mr. Tyner served as an officer in the U.S. Army from 1943 to 1946 in the European Theater of operations. After he was honorably discharged, Mr. Tyner earned a master's degree in history from Columbia University and worked toward a doctorate there. In 1954, Mr. Tyner moved to Greenwich and began teaching at Brunswick School. He taught there for 12 years until he became headmaster of Adelphi Academy in Bayridge, N.Y., where he worked for 14 years. He and his family moved to Brooklyn and lived there until 1980. In 1980, he and his family returned to Greenwich, where Mr. Tyner worked for Cuisinart and Control Data Corp. Mr. Tyner was an active member of Christ Church Greenwich while he lived here.

He is survived by his wife, Lorraine Rose Wilfer Tyner of Beaver Dam; two daughters, Sarah Katherine Tyner of Beaver Dam and Emily Margaret Tyner of Saranac Lake, N.Y.; and two grandsons.

Services and burial are private.In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Mark's Episcopal Church, 700 E. Mill St., Beaver Dam, WI 53916.The Murray Funeral Home, 131 E. Maple Ave., Beaver Dam, handled the arrangements.
