PETER VAN ZON, STRICKEN, BODY FOUND IN LAKE

Victim of Heart Failure As He Walks Beach

Believed to have been stricken by an attack of heart failure while walking along the lake beach north of State street and to have toppled into the lake, Peter Van Zon, well known resident of the city for many years, was found dead, his body partly immersed in the water early Sunday morning. The stopping of the watch on the person of Mr. Van Zon at the hour of 9:05 leads to the belief that it was about this time Saturday morning that he met his unfortunate end a he had not been seen after that hour. There was evidence Mr. Van Zon had attempted to get free of the water as his hands were outstretched on the land. Death was not due to drowning as there was not water in the lungs.

Returned Here Thursday
Mr. and Mrs. Van Zon, who formerly conducted a grocery store at Fifteenth and Clark streets, had made their home at Milwaukee for the past two years. A week ago Mrs. Van Zon returned here and was joined by her husband on Thursday, they having purchased a home on Pine street to which their furniture was delivered on Friday. Mr. and Mrs. Van Zon were guests at the Richard Heise home on Green street and Mr. Van Zon left there at 8 o'clock Saturday morning intending to visit a barber shop and then go to the new home.

Friends who met Mr. Van Zon on the north side said that he had been interested in the beaching of the old Chicago and that he said he was going to look the old hull over. It is presumed that he was on the way along the beach to where the old steamer rests when he suffered the attack. Mr. Van Zon had not been in the best of health for two years or more.

Find Body as Search Starts
A brother of Mr. Van Zon was in his way to ask aid of the police in searching for the missing man early Sunday morning when report of the finding of a body in the lake was conveyed to him and upon investigation it was found to be that of the unfortunate man. The body was taken in charge and removed to an undertaking parlor and funeral services will be held Tuesday morning at 9 o'clock from the Heise home and St. Boniface church. Burial will be at Calvary cemetery.

Dead Man Born Here
Mr. Van Zon was a native of Manitowoc Rapids, born there in 1859 on November 15. He was married fifteen years ago to Mrs. John Dooley of this city and the couple made there home here until July 1920 when they disposed of their business and located at Milwaukee.

Two brothers, Joseph of this city and John of Chicago are the only surviving relatives besides the widow.

For years Mr. Van Zon was employed as foreman by the Wisconsin Bridge & Iron company. He was well and favorably known.
