Catherine Germaine Wallen, age 87, died Monday evening, February 5, 1996, in St. Mary's Home, Manitowoc. She was born in the family house her grandparents built at 1222 S. 15th St., Manitowoc, where she lived until the last three years of her life.

Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, February 7, 1996, at St. Boniface Catholic Church, Manitowoc, where five generations of her family have attended. Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial will be Rev. Carl Meulemans with burial at Calvary Cemetery, Manitowoc.

She was born in Manitowoc, the daughter of the late Frank and Maxmillia (Mrotek) Trastek. Catherine was a member of the first graduating class of Lincoln High School in 1926. She married Thor Wallen on Thanksgiving in 1940, at St. Nazianz. He preceded her in death February 4, 1962. Mrs. Wallen was a bookkeeper for Manitowoc Public Schools and was a secretary to the Manitowoc Board of Education. As secretary to the Board of Education she often said she ?built? Washington Junior High since she handled all the contracts, checks, and other paperwork during construction. She was also employed at Manitowoc County Public Welfare System and the Manitowoc City Office. Mrs. Wallen was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church and the Daughters of Isabella.

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Richard (Skip) and Lynn Wallen, Juneau, Alaska, Robert F.N. and Susan Wallen, Windsor, Wis.; a daughter, Catherine Allen, Juneau, Alaska; a sister, Elaine Bucci, Duluth, Minn.; a sister-in-law, Lillian Trastek, Manitowoc; and a special nephew who lived next door, John Trastek, Manitowoc.
Also surviving are other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends along with four grandchildren, Tor Wallen, Juneau, Alaska, Andrew Wallen, Madison, Sara Khalsa, Madison, and Daniel Gruenberg, Juneau, Alaska. She was also preceded in death by one brother, Russell Trastek, and a brother-in-law, Frank Bucci.

Friends may call at St. Boniface Catholic Church from 9:30 a.m. Wednesday until the time of service at 11 a.m.

There will be no Tuesday evening visitation.

The Pfeffer Funeral Home, Manitowoc, is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.

Catherine was a devoted wife and mother, and in her retirement often spent time visiting family in Juneau, Alaska, Honolulu, Hawaii, Duluth, Minn., and Windsor, Wis. In addition to her family, her lifelong passions were crocheting, cross stitching and other crafts, and her children's homes are filled with her exquisite work.
