Lowell E. Watson, age 80, of 1420 Lee Circle, Manitowoc, died Friday, November 17, 2000, at Holy Family Memorial Medical Center, Manitowoc.

A Private Family Memorial Service will be held Wednesday, November 22, 2000, at Calvary Mausoleum Chapel, Manitowoc. Officiating at the service will be Rev. Dave Hoffman with burial to follow at Calvary Cemetery, Manitowoc. Military Graveside Rites will be accorded by the VFW Otto Oas Post #659.

He was born April 20, 1920, in Bismarck, Ill., son of the late Leon and Goldie White Watson. He was a graduate of Manitowoc Lincoln High School with the class of 1938. Lowell then entered the United States Air Force serving both active and reserve for 30 plus years. On September 25, 1941, he married the former Eileen Egan at St. Boniface Catholic Church, Manitowoc. Lowell served during World War II becoming a pilot of the C0-47 Troop Carrier. He flew missions in all the major invasions of the European Theatre. After being honorably discharged in 1945, he returned to Manitowoc to operate a Mink ranch. In 1953, he was called up to serve his country again as a pilot of a B-36 Bomber during the Korean War, retiring from the military with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. Lowell retired from the United States Postal Service in 1980. He was a member of the VFW Otto Oas Post #659, Knights of Columbus, National Association of Retired Federal Employees, Manitowoc Senior Center, and a Holy Family Memorial Medical Center volunteer.

Survivors include his wife, Eileen Watson, Manitowoc; one daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and Robert Nelson, Grand Rapids, Mich.; one son, John Watson, Manitowoc; three grandchildren, Sarah Nelson, Melinda Watson, Eric Watson and his wife, Donna; three great-grandchildren; other relative and friends also survive.

The Pfeffer Funeral Home and Cremation Center, Manitowoc is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.
