Paul F. Wellner

Paul F. Wellner, age 78, a resident of 950 S. 30th St., Manitowoc, answered his final call and entered into eternal life on Thursday, July 31, 2008, at St. Mary's Home at Felician Village in Manitowoc.

Paul was born on Sept. 5, 1929, to the late Frederick and Anna(Pieschel) Wellner. He began his education at St. Boniface Catholic Grade School in Manitowoc and later graduated from Lincoln High School, Manitowoc, with the class of 1947. During the Korean Conflict, Paul served in the U.S. Army and was stationed overseas in Germany. When Paul returned from overseas, he married Florence Meyer on Aug. 22, 1953, at Holy Innocents Catholic Church in Manitowoc. Paul worked as a machinist apprentice at Kaufmann Manufacturing in Manitowoc. On Nov. 1, 1960, Paul began working for the City of Manitowoc Fire Department until he retired as captain on Jan. 12, 1992. He enjoyed working in his garden, landscaping and spending his time with his family.

Paul is survived by his wife: Florence, of 54 years; three children: Cheryl (Gerald) Krahn, Brillion; Michael (Pattie) Wellner, Manitowoc; and Lee Ann (Brian) Lorrigan, Fond du Lac; 10 grandchildren; one great-grandson; one sister: Eunice (Ervin) Korlesky; and five sisters-in-law: Helen Zahorik; Arelene Meyer; Dorothy "Dixie" Meyer; Cecilia Strouf; and Viola (Jerry) Schroeder. Nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive.

The family will greet relatives and friends at the Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home on Sunday, Aug. 3, 2008, from 5 until 8 p.m. A prayer service led by Deacon Alan Boeldt, will take place at 7 p.m., and will be concluded by a video tribute in memory of Paul.

The visitation will continue at St. Francis of Assisi on Marshall on Monday, Aug. 4, 2008, from 9 a.m. until the beginning of the Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. The Rev. Richard Klingeisen will officiate, with burial to follow at Calvary Cemetery in Manitowoc.

The Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home and Crematory, North 11th and St. Clair streets, Manitowoc, is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.

The family would like to extend their special thanks to the staff of River's Bend Health and Rehabilitation Center; St. Mary's Rehabilitation; Holy Family Memorial Medical Center and The Cancer Care Center; Dr. Lynn Baatz; Dr. Steven Umhoefer; and all of the other physicians for the care and compassion they provided to Paul and his family.
