John W. Wit, 75, of 06 S. 26th Street, Manitowoc, died unexpectedly Tuesday evening, October 9, 1990 at Memorial Hospital, Manitowoc.

Funeral services 8:30 am Friday at Reinbold Pfeffer Urbanek and Schlie Funeral Home and 10 am at St. Paul Catholic Church, Manitowoc. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Ronald Reimer with burial to follow at Calvary Cemetery, Manitowoc. Military Graveside Services will be accorded by Kempen-Staudinger-Terens Post No. 7753.

He was born April 25, 1915 in the Township of Gibson, Manitowoc County, son of the late Emil and Emma Duchan Wit. He grew up and was educated at Melnik area schools. He farmed at Melnik and then moved to Manitowoc in 1964. He then worked for Wisconsin Aluminum Foundry for 16 years, retiring in 1980. He also worked part time at Pine Crest Historical Village until 1986. He married the former Verna Bohachek Leiterman on November 26, 1964 at St. Anne's Catholic Church, Francis Creek. Mr. Wit was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church, Kempen-Staudinger-Teresn Post No. 7753 of Mishicot, member of Manitowoc Maritime Museum, The Wisconsin Czeks, The Manitowoc County Historical Society and the Manitowoc Senior Citizens where he helped to deliver meals. He served with the United States Army during World War II in the Southwest Pacific.

Survivors include his wife, Verna; a daughter and son-in-law, Darlene and Michael Moreau of Watertown, Wisconsin, two grandchildren, Jeffrey and Jennifer Moreau of Watertown; a sister and brother-in-law, Caroline and Francis Hlinak of Tisch Mills; two nieces and three nephews and other relatives and friends survive.

Friends may call at Reinbold Pfeffer Urbanek and Schlei Funeral Home, 4 pm to 8 pm Thursday. Parish Prayer Service will be held at 7:30 pm led by Deacon William Klein.
