(1890 - 1961)

Edward H. Woods, 71, of 729 S. 32nd St., Manitowoc, veteran city fireman, died Friday evening at Holy Family Hospital, Manitowoc. He had been ill four months.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Mittnacht Funeral Home, Manitowoc, and at 11 a.m. at St. Paul Catholic Church. The Rev. Clement P. Kern will officiate nad burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.

Mr. Woods was born April 12, 1890, in the Town of Gibson, son of the late John and Mary Mathey Woods. The family moved to Appleton when Edward was a child. He attended St. Joseph School at that city and later enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving three years. He came to Manitowoc in 1914 and was employed by Manitowoc Fire Dept. He served actively with the department until retirement in 1948 and was acting chief of the department at the time. Mr. Woods was a charter member of the Fire Protective Assn. and a member of Manitowoc Gladiolus Society.

He married Lillian Beysar Nov. 18, 1915. She survives along with a son, Donald, a sister, Mrs. Mary Petersen, and four grandchildren of Manitowoc.

Friends may call at the funeral home after 2 p.m. Sunday where the Rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m.
