Mr. Eastabooks was a member of the Batavia Landmark United Methodist church in Batavia. he was a member of the Masonic Lodge having received his 50 year membership pin.
At the early age of nine, John began his interest in the pharmaceutical business while helping at Keith's Drug store in Hinckley. This interest was to carry on throughout the rest of his life.
Mr. Eastabrooks was a 1921 graduate of the School of Pharmacy at the University of Illinois at its Chicago campus. While attending the university he was employed by Walgreen Drug Stores. Upon his graduation he was employed by Johnson Pharmacy in Aurora. He and his wife Ester then moved to Sycamore where he continued the drug store business. At a later date, they moved to River Forest where he became the first Weibolt Drug Store Pharmacist. He then struck out on his own, opening the Eastabooks Pharmacy in Oak Park and Elmhurst. Within a few years, Mr. Eastabrooks, along with Mr. Max Boerger, formed the Elmhurst Drug Company of which Mr. Eastabrooks later became the president and sole owner.
Survivors include his wife Ester of Batavia, as well as many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, nephews and friends that will miss him dearly.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his two sisters, Enda M Meilinger and Ethel Martin; seven brothers, Howard S, Archie D, Joseph H, Miles W, William R, Donald S, and Franklin, at birth.
Funeral services were held Tuesday at the Nash-Nelson Memorial Chapel, the Reverend Donna Nelson, and Reverend Carl Lugn, Chaplians of the Holmstad, and reverend Seymour Halford of the Batavia Landmark United Methodist Church, Participating. Organist was Jackie Bretthauer. Interment was at Miller Cemetery, Hinckley.
