Dentist, Church Leader, Dies

MANITOWOC —
Dr. A. J. Zimmer, 67, of 1814 Marshall St., Manitowoc, died Monday afternoon at a cottage at Fish Creek after a cerebral hemorrhage.

Funeral services will be at 9:30 a.m. Thursday at the Pfeffer Funeral Home, Manitowoc, and at 10 a.m. at St. Boniface Catholic Church, the Rev. Alfred Pritzl officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.

Dr. Zimmer was born Jan. 8, 1891, at Menomonee Falls, Wis., the son of the late John A. and Catherine Terry Zimmer. In 1919 he married the former Zelma Brochmann, who preceded him in death in 1946. He married the former Mrs. Evangeline Schroeder March 29, 1958 (sic).

Served in France
A graduate of the dental school of Marquette University in 1914, Dr. Zimmer served as a captain in the Dental Corps during the First World War serving in France from 1917 to 1919.

Dr. Zimmer was a member of and 14 years secretary and treasurer of the Manitowoc County Dental Society and a member and past counselor of the state dental society. He was a member of an advisory board during the Second World War. In church organizations, he was past president of the Manitowoc Apostolate; a member and past grand knight of the Knights of Columbus, member and past faithful navigator of the Fourth Degree, Knights of Columbus, member of the K. C. state committee for the Squires program; counselor for the Bishop Rhode Squires Circle, member of the Holy Name Society and past president of the Manitowoc County Holy ___________, charter member of the Serra Club of Manitowoc, and member of the Board of councilors of St. Boniface parish. He also served on the Boy Scout board of review and was a member of the American Legion.

Brothers, Sisters Survive
Surviving besides the widow are a stepdaughter, Mrs. Walter Jagodensky of Manitowoc, a stepson, Robert Schroeder of Green Bay, two brothers, Jacob Z. Zimmer of Colgate, Wis., and Joseph F. of Manitowoc; a sister, Mrs. Joseph Fellenz of New Holstein, and nine stepgrandchildren.

Friends may call after 3 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home where the Rosary will be said at 7 p.m. Wednesday by members of the parish and third and fourth degree Knights of Columbus.

Alfred Pritzl officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.

In Tuesday’s obituary notice it was erroneously stated that Dr. Zimmer married Mrs. Evangeline Schroeder March 29, 1958. The marriage actually took place March 29, 1948.
