Doris Berdine Flowerday Scobie was born on March 24, 1913, to Wm. And Emma Watts Flowerday on a farm near Seward, Nebraska and died at Aurora, Nebraska on October 30, 1998, at the age of 85 years, 7 months, and 6 days. She was the eighth in a family of nine children. Albert, Elsie, Arthur (Bob), Annie, Fredrick Wm., Theodore, Ed James, Doris, and Raymond Ivan.
As a child of four years, she started playing the piano, her first song being "Tell Me the Tales That Were So Dear to Me, Long, Long Ago." She didn't take piano lessons and always had the talent of being able to play a song after she had heard it. Her enjoyment of playing the piano and organ was used in playing for social events.
Elsie, her older sister, would make candy and this was hidden in the apple orchard at Easter Time.
She only had one doll, which she states wasn't a pretty doll, and it came up missing. She looked for the doll, unable to find it until at Christmas when it was under the tree with a new set of clothes.
Her elementary education was in a one room country school between Beaver Crossing and Milford. Her high school years were spent at home helping her mother who was ill. She did domestic house cleaning and helped her older sisters with their families.
On March 3, 1935 she married Lawerence Badgett in her parents home with only family present. She was a twenty one year old bride. Her niece Joyce attended the wedding, with measles. Well, who shouldn't get the measles three weeks later but the new bride Doris.
Lawerence and Doris worker for a farmer for $25.00 per month plus he provided a house for them to live in. Lawerence was diagnosed with Hodgkin's Disease and died in 1943.
After the death of Lawerence, she moved to Lincoln and attended secretarial school, working at Standard Reliance Insurance Co. She met Marilyn Lynch, sister of Forest, who introduced Forest to Doris. After a courtship they were married January 5, 1949. Marrying Forest she also accepted the responsibility of parenting a fifteen year old son Willard.
