Sophia was the first wife of Mathias Hoffmann, son of Peter Joseph Hoffmann and Anna (nee Nett) Hoffmann. Both families were from Eich, Andernach, Rheinland, Germany, and had arrived in New York together on 25 August 1846 aboard the ship John N. Gosler. Anna Sophia and Mathias married at St. John's on 28 November 1848. (Her sister Gertrude had married his brother Johann there in 1846.)
