Maureen Sue Starr Walters, age 47, of Valparaiso, passed away on Saturday, August 20, 2005 at her residence. She was a lifelong area resident and was a graduate of Portage High School and Ivy Tech State College. Maureen was formerly employed with Alterra Sterling House in Valparaiso, where she worked as an LPN. She was a member of St. Theresa Catholic Church, Valparaiso and will be remembered by her family as a wonderful mother and companion. Maureen is survived by her loving companion, Steve Starr; sons: Brian, Jeff and Jacob Starr; step-children: Jason Starr of OH, Amanda Starr of PA and Brandy Starr of Valparaiso; sisters: Kathy (Charlie) Heckman of Portage, Linda Kozlowski of Schererville, Peggie Sams of Valparaiso and Beth (Tony) Ramsey of Portage; brothers: Bob (Ruth) Walters of Valparaiso and Ray (Regi) Walters of Hobart; numerous nieces and nephews; step-mom, Jennie Walters and six step-brothers and sisters. She was preceded in death by her parents: Simon and Eileen Walters. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 24, 2005 at Rees Funeral Home, Olson Chapel, 5341 Central Avenue, Portage. Burial will follow in McCool Cemetery, Portage. Visiting hours will be held from 2 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, August 23, 2005 at Rees Funeral Home, Olson Chapel.

After her divorce she took back her maiden name but her sons asked me to list her with her married name on here. Her and Steve were getting back together and he took care of her and the boys during her illness.
