She was born on February, 12, 1922, in Grottoes, the daughter of the late Ernest and Daisy Harris Wood.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her three husbands, Elmore B. Cason, Goldie "Wilson" Tomlin, and Roscoe Calhoun; and a son, Donald "Barry" Cason.
Survivors include one son, Michael B. Cason and his wife, Nancy, of Waynesboro; one brother, Robert Wood; a daughter-in-law, Freda Cason; a sister-in-law, Helen Wood and two nieces, all of Havre De Grace, Maryland; two grandsons and several cousins .
She attended high school and graduated from St. Anne's School for Girls and then went to the University of Maryland. After finishing school, she worked as a Social Worker at Johns Hopkins Hospital for sixteen years. She then moved to Waynesboro and organized the personnel department at Waynesboro Community Hospital and was personnel director for nineteen years. She was an antiques dealer for many years and loved to go to antique sales. She was President of the Virginia Personnel Association and also the Valley Personnel Association. She volunteered at the visitors center on Afton Mountain, the Beautification Committee of Waynesboro, and the Recovery Room of Augusta Medical Center. She was an active member of Grace Lutheran Church.
A memorial service was held Saturday, October 23, 2010, at Grace Lutheran Church in Waynesboro with Pastor Eric Childers officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Grace Lutheran Church, 500 S. Wayne Avenue, Waynesboro, VA 22980 or the Augusta Health Hospice of the Shenandoah, P.O. Box 215, Fishersville, VA 22939.
