REMINGTON DIES OF BULLET WOUND
----------------------------------------
PUS ON THE BRAIN BRINGS END TO MAN WHO SHOT HIMSELF.
----------------------------------------
HE HAD FEARED ARREST
----------------------------------------
After lingering for almost a week with a bullet hole clean through his brain, Lee Remington, 24, who fired the shot himself in a suicide attempt last Friday, died at Jennie Edmundson hospital shortly after noon Thursday.

All hope for Remington was abandoned two days ago when examination by the attending surgeons, Drs. H. D. Kelly and P. E. Reed, disclosed that, pus had formed within the skull and was steadily pressing on the man’s brain.

Remington remained conscious for hours at a time after he was at first admitted to the hospital and before the complication began to numb his mind.

After penning a note to his wife, a week ago in which he asked her to rear their four children, so that they would not “go to hell like I did,” Remington lay in the single bed room of their small home in Lakoma Annex, Lake Manawa, and crooking his thumb in the trigger of a .32 caliber revolver, sent the single in the gun crashing through his right temple.

He explained his action to a deputy sheriff and a representative of The Nonpareil, saying that he would rather die than go to jail. A warrant had been issued for Remington charging him with passing a worthless check.

When he reached the hospital and X-ray examination disclosed that the slug had taken a course which plowed a hole directly through the lower lobe of his brain. Remington expressed a desire to live. He was told at that time that his fear of arrest was unfounded, as Sheriff P. A. Lainson had arranged for him to settle the small check a day before he attempted suicide.

Remington is survived by his widow and four children, and his parents, Mr. and Mrs. D. M. Remington of Mondamln, Ia.

The body was removed to Jackson’s funeral home.
