HALLOCK, Minn. - Blake S. Sobolik, 45, died Sunday in Altru Hospital, Grand Forks.

He was born at Grand Forks, Feb. 11, 1960, to parents Dennis and the late Marlene (Olson) Sobolik.

Blake was baptized and confirmed at Grace Lutheran Church and graduated from Hallock High School in 1978. He went to the University of North Dakota and graduated in 1982 with a degree in accounting.

He was united in marriage to Jane Hughes, Aug. 7, 1982, in Hallock. They made their home in Grand Forks, where Blake attended law school until his graduation in 1985 with a Juris Doctor degree. He practiced law at Moren Law Office in Roseau, and in 1986, joined the law office of Brink, Sobolik, Severson, Malm and Albrecht in Hallock.
Blake served his law profession with distinction, and was the President of the Fourteenth District Bar Association in 2001-2002. He served on the board of directors of the Legal Services of Northwestern Minnesota for the past several years. Blake was a member of the Minnesota State Bar Association and of the North Dakota State Bar Association.
Blake was a devoted husband and father, and enjoyed hunting, fishing and working on the farm. He coached youth hockey for many years, and loved watching his children participate in their many activities.
Blake is survived by his wife, Jane, two daughters, Stacy, Augustana College in Sioux Falls, and Maia, at home; one son, Brett, Bismarck; his father, Dennis, and wife Cindy Sobolik, Hallock; grandmother, Belle Sobolik, Grand Forks, brother, Brad (Wendy) Sobolik, Hallock; sister, Cara (Kelly) Plaine, Melrose; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Tom and Bev Hughes, Hallock; as well as many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
Blake was preceded in death by his mother, Marlene Sobolik; sister, Janet Sobolik; brother-in-law, Doug Hughes; maternal grandparents, Richard and Esther Olson; and paternal grandfather, D.J. Sobolik.
Funeral services were Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2005, 2 p.m. in Grace Lutheran Church, Hallock. Interment was in Greenwood Cemetery, Hallock. Rev. Phil Tobin and Rev. Kenneth Losch presided. Special music provided by Jillayne Kraska, Karen Vold, Marlyce and Phil Peterson, Charles and Patti Swanson and Karissa Dennis.
Pallbearers were Ed Arnesen, Robert Albrecht, Jim Ingeman, John Deere, Joel Lindegard, Frank Burggraf, Conrad Dahl and Bryan Younggren.
Adamson-Austin-Hughes Funeral Home, Hallock assisted the family with arrangements.
