92, died in Seattle, Washington on September 28, 2013.
She was born on a farm near Minto, North Dakota on June 14, 1921. On the day of her birth, the church bells rang out at St. Patrick Catholic Church because she was the first girl born into a family of six boys. A seventh boy would later be born to her parents, James and Theresa Murphy.
Agnes Murphy married Harry Purpur of Grand Forks, North Dakota. During World War II, Agnes wrote letters to local servicemen on behalf of their mothers who were not able to write in English. Harry and Agnes moved to Seattle in 1953.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her seven brothers (Andy, Bill, Ernie, Francis, Gene, Joe and Ted).
Agnes is survived by her children, Colleen Vlahovich, Harry Purpur (Karen Scherrer) and Dan Purpur (Jeanne Sommerfeld), and by her grandchildren Chatherin Purpur (Scott Hanson), Elizabeth Purpur (Sean McParland), Gabe Purpur, Kelly Bucklin (Brad Bucklin) and Katie Purpur.
Agnes was a faith-filled woman who was an active member of St. Benedict Parish in A Seattle for 60 years. Recitation of the Rosary will be Wednesday, October 2, 7:00 pm, at Hoffner Fisher & Harvey 508 N 36th St., Seattle A Funeral Mass will be held, Thursday, October 3, at 11:30, at St. Benedict Church 1805 N 49th St, Seattle
