I first met Mike Hugen at a dunking booth where he was a "victim" and did 30 minutes being dropped into the cold murky water. He was a DJ from a local radio station, who donated his time for a charity event. Mike was also an accomplished writer, and he shared his editing skills with this aspiring writer, through the years. Mike had a wicked sense of humor, loved to laugh, and was probably the biggest fan of the "Twilight Zone" television series. He also loved Star Trek, the television show and the movies.

He died of a heart attack at the age of 43, shortly after relocating to the east coast. At the time of his death, he was extremely happy, and felt like he'd at last "gone home." In the end, that's all anyone can really ask for.

To know him a little better, read his own words, from his online profile: "I'm 47, a semi-retired journalist, currently working as a computer software technician to support my habit of writing novels, short stories and plays. I'm divorced with no kids and owned by three cats. I'm a balding, pony-tailed, bearded punster. Some people like me, some can't forget me and others wish they could. I can relate to almost everyone despite being an elitist who is firmly convinced that we need to post lifeguards at the gene pool."

"Good friend, why did you have to go? Just when I was getting to know you, I sing this song to show, you were a good friend; they don't make 'em quite like you and in my memory, you'll always be, a good, good friend to me." ~~Dave Ellingson/Kim Carnes
