Harold A. Griggs Jr., 88, of South Williamsport, passed away peacefully on Sunday Sept. 29, 2013, at Valley View Nursing Center.

He was born in Williamsport on April 23, 1925, a son of Harold A. Sr. and Mae E. Stahl Griggs.

Following graduation from Scottland Military School for Boys, he was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1944 and fought in the Philippines as part of Leyte's Lost Battalion.

He was a member of St. Lawrence Roman Catholic Church, life long member Knights of Columbus, VFW post 7863 in DuBoistown and the Independent Fire Co.

Harold was the proprietor of the Southern Grill until his retirement in 1987.

Harold was an avid hunter, golfer and swimmer and loved spending time with his family as well as his daily 3 o'clock ice cream cone.

Surviving are his wife of 66 years, the former Phyllis M. Mahonski; seven children, Joyce L. Jones, of South Williamsport, Harold A. Griggs III, (Ann) of Newark, Ohio, Ann M. Fry, (Thomas) of South Williamsport, Joseph A. Griggs, (Sherry) of South Williamsport, James E. Griggs, (Mary) of Jersey Shore, Kristin M. Kinney, (Stephen) of South Williamsport, Marc K. Griggs, (Millie) of Princeton, N.C.; 14 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; a brother, Richard Griggs; and a sister, Louise Linn.

In addition in his parents; three brothers, James E., Donald W. and Benival F. Griggs preceded him in death.

The family will receive family and friends at the Crouse Funeral Home, 133 E. Third St., Williamsport, from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday evening

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Thursday morning a St. Lawrence Roman Catholic Church, 800 W. Central Ave., South Williamsport, with his pastor, Msgr. Stephen D. McGough officiating followed by burial at Resurrection Cemetery in Montoursville.

In lieu of flowers the family respectfully suggests memorial contributions may be made in Harold's name to Shepherd of the Streets, 669 Center St., Williamsport, PA 17701.
