WILLARD W. BLAESSER

A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, May 7, at 2:30 p.m. at Holy Innocents
Church, in Manitowoc, Wis., for Willard Blaesser, professor emeritus of
Educational Psychology and Counseling at Arizona State University (ASU) and a
nationally known educator.
Born on November 11, 1912, in Cedarburg, Wisconsin, to George Blaesser, a dentist,
and his wife, the former Lydia Yochem, he later attended the University of
Wisconsin where he was student body president. Prior to his teaching at ASU, Dr.
Blaesser was dean of students at various universities around the country,
including the City College of New York, the University of Utah, Washington State
University and the University of Montana. After retiring from ASU in 1983, he was
a visiting scholar at the University of Wisconsin. In 1960, he was invited by the
government of Ethiopia to help set up the Haile Sellase I University. Dr. Blaesser
was president of the American Psychological Association and of the American College
Personnel Association.
He is survived by his wife, Helen, of Marlborough, Mass.; two daughters, Ann
Codevilla of Wayland, Mass., and Jean Blaesser of Los Osos, Calif.; a son, Brian
Blaesser of Weston, Mass.; two sisters, Lois Shireman and Georgia Callahan of
Manitowoc, Wis.; seven grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Calling hours will be from 1:00-2:00 p.m. on Thursday at the Jens Funeral Home,
1122 S. 8th St., Manitowoc, Wis.
