She was born March 17, 1916, in Beltrami County, where her parents, Martin and Helen Anderson homesteaded. About a year later, the family moved to Jupiter Township in Kittson County. Grace attended Grant School about a half mile away and was confirmed in the nearby East Emaus Lutheran Church.
When Grace was 14, her father died, so she worked for farm families to help support her mother and younger siblings. In 1936, the family moved to Hallock.
On Dec. 22, 1940, she married John Landberg of Hallock, who was in the trucking business. They had two sons, James Allen and John Craig. Her husband, John, died in 1994. She cooked at the Hallock Elementary Schools for 23 years and for summer migrant programs.
Grace also owned and ran the U-Auto Drive In in the summers of 1959, 1960 and 1961. Over the years, she also cooked at various Hallock restaurants. In 1940, she became a member of Grace Lutheran Church and served stints as a Sunday school teacher and as Ladies Aid treasurer and was a member of L.C.W. She also was a member of the Hallock Public Library Board for about six years.
Survivors include sons James and his wife, Mary, Edina, John and his wife, Laura, Sacramento, Calif.; brothers, Dennis and Larry; and sisters, Irene Nordling and Mary Patterson, and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were Monday, July 11, 2005, 11 a.m. in Grace Lutheran Church, Hallock. Interment was in Greenwood Cemetery, Hallock.
Rev. Phil Tobin and Rev. Ken Losch, presided. Diana Anderson, was soloist and Karissa Dennis organist.
Pallbearers were Lise Hedstrom, Siri Grace Hedstrom, Kevin Anderson, Mark Nordling, Mike Anderson and Timothy J. Anderson.
The family prefers memorials to ELCH World Hunger Appeal, the Hallock Library and Grace Lutheran Church.
