HUMBOLDT, Minn. - Irene Marjorie Gatheridge, 84, Humboldt, died May 31, 2005, at the Kittson Memorial Healthcare Center, Hallock.
Irene was born on the family farm east of Kennedy in Davis Township on Jan. 23, 1921 to John and Emma (Moritz) Laude.
Originally from Iowa, John and Emma moved to Kennedy in 1916 where they lived for many years with their 10 children, Emory, Loren, Lester, Kenneth, Marvin, Delmar, Donald, Leila, Lois and Irene.
Irene attended grade school in McKinley, District #18, Davis Township and high school in Kennedy. She attended Moorhead State Teachers College in Moorhead, receiving her bachelor of science degree in 1970.
On Jan. 1, 1943 Irene was united in marriage to William Ingemar Gatheridge at the Teien Lutheran Church, west of Kennedy. They settled on the family farm near Humboldt, where they raised their four sons. Irene taught grade school near Lancaster, Argyle and Humboldt, and retired in 1987 at the age of 66.
During her years of teaching she touched many young lives, and taught many of her own grandchildren. Irene was active in her community and was an active member of the United Methodist Church at Humboldt.
Family members include her husband, William; sons, Richard (Carole), Humboldt; James (Paulette) Humboldt; William (Verna), Crookston; and Ronald, West Yellowstone, Mont.; 19 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild; sisters, Leila (Leonard) Zabrocki, Iron; Lois (Clarence) Peterson, Stephen; sisters-in-law, Clara Laude, Lancaster; Joanne Laude, Kennedy, Ruby Dykhuis, Pembina; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Vera and Elmer Moe, Grand Forks; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John (1959) and Emma (1964); seven brothers, Emory (1964), Loren (1952), Lester (1971), Kenneth (1980), Marvin (1996), Delmar (1989) and Donald (1950), one sister, Myrtle Mae (1916) ; and a grandchild, Jill Elizabeth Gatheridge (1966).
Funeral services were Saturday, June 4, 2005, 10:30 a.m. in the United Methodist Church, Humboldt. Interment was in Greenwood Cemetery, Hallock. Rev. Linda Baldock, presided; Marjorie Hawk, soloist and Robert Bockwitz, organist. Honorary pallbearers were grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Pallbearers were nieces and nephews.
Adamson-Austin-Hughes Funeral Home, Hallock assisted the family with arrangements.
