HALLOCK, Minn. - Rebecca Carriere, 95, died at the Kittson Memorial Healthcare Center in Hallock Saturday, Jan. 15, 2005.
Rebecca Jolly was born near Red Lake Falls, Nov. 8, 1909, the daughter of Rodrique and Angelina (Fournier) Jolly.
She grew up on the family farm and attended country school.
On Nov. 21, 1932 she was united in marriage to Joseph Carriere at Red Lake Falls. They settled near Terrebone and farmed there until 1947 when they moved to Hallock.
Joseph and Rebecca owned and operated the Grand Theater in Hallock from 1947 to 1975 when it was destroyed by fire. They also opened the Hallock Drive-In Theater in 1954 and operated it until 1985. Rebecca was always behind the concession stand at both locations, serving popcorn and visiting with customers. They retired in 1985. Joseph died in 1990. She was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church and the Ladies Guild.
Family members include three sons, Daniel (Donna) Carriere, Hallock; Duane (Yvonne) Carriere, Hallock and Roger (Kathy) Carriere, Fulton, Texas; three daughters, Lucy Jerome, Huntsville, Ala., Janice (Melvin) Zobeck, White Bear Lake, and Elsie Arena, Arleta, Calif.; 18 grandchildren; 30 great grandchildren; and two sisters, Della Amiot, Crookston, and Agnes Vaudrin, Crookston.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a granddaughter, Jody Mootz; a daughter-in-law, Layne; two brothers, Herb and Bill; and three sisters, Rose, Eva and Blanche.
Funeral services were Wednesday, Jan. 19, 2005 at 11 a.m. in St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Hallock.
Interment was in Greenwood Cemetery, Hallock. Rev. Timothy Noah presided. Sharlene Klegstad was organist and Sue Albrecht, soloist.
Honorary pallbearers were grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Pallbearers were grandsons, Scott Carriere, Michael Carriere, Jay Carriere, Mark Zobeck, Deon Carriere and Christopher Carriere.
Adamson-Austin-Hughes Funeral Home, Hallock assisted the family with arrangements.
