Diane D. Kirchen, age 73, of Manitowoc, died early Saturday morning September 28, 2013 at Aurora Medical Center, Two Rivers, from complications related to M.S., a disease she courageously battled for over half of her adult life.

Diane was born on November 27, 1939 in Manitowoc, the daughter of John C. and Magdaline (Porubkansky) Poulos. Diane graduated from Manitowoc Lincoln High School, with the class of 1958. She then received her teaching degree from Manitowoc County Teaching College and completed her four year degree at Silver Lake College. On June 25, 1960 she married Lester R. Kirchen in Manitowoc. Diane was employed as a Teacher at Spring Valley school for grades 1-8. Later she was an evening Supervisor at Lakeshore Technical College for 22 years until her retirement. She was involved with the M.S. Society as a facilitator for the Manitowoc support group for 13 years. Diane enjoyed spending time with family and friends, playing dominoes, and traveling within the U.S. and abroad.

Diane is survived by her husband: Lester R. Kirchen, Manitowoc; three daughters and sons-in-law: Ann and David Freigang, Brookfield, Christine and Mark Nickels, Manitowoc, Sandra and David Watkins, Madison; one son: David Kirchen, Manitowoc; nine grandchildren: Eric and Michael Freigang, Tia, Mikhail, Drake and Shelby Nickels, Meghan Sweetman, Alex and Dimitra Kirchen; one great grandson: Tristan; one sister: Ilona Poulos, Manitowoc; one brother and sister-in-law: William and Calla Poulos, Manitowoc.

She was preceded in death by her parents; John C. and Magdaline Poulos; and one brother: George Poulos.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday October 5, 2013 at St. Francis of Assisi on Waldo, Manitowoc. Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial will be the Rev. David Beaudry. Cremation has occurred at All-Care Cremation Center with burial of the cremated remains at Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc, at a later date.

The family will greet relatives and friends from 9:30 AM until 10:45 AM on Saturday October 5, 2013 at St. Francis of Assisi on Waldo, Manitowoc.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the National M.S. Society in Diane's name.
