Wife of Charles Alvin Smith, Sr., and mother of Charles Alvin Smith, Jr., and Evelyn Caroline Smith (died as an infant). Daughter of Henry Bernard and Sarah Elizabeth Gilliam Stein.

Her memorial service card reads:

"Dema Agnes Smith, daughter of the late Henry Bernard and Sarah Gilliam Stein, was born February 14, 1904 in Howell County, Missouri. Entered into eternal rest March 25 ,1981 at the age of seventy-seven years.

She received her education in the schools in Howell County, Missouri and on February 15, 1925 she was married at Fanchon, Missouri to Charles Alvin Smith, Sr.

Mrs. Smith is survived by her husband, Charles Alvin Smith, Sr., West Plains, Missouri; one son, Charles Alvin Smith, Jr., Joplin, Missouri; three grandchildren; four great grandchildren; two step grandchildren; one step great grandchild; one brother, Lem Stein, Denver, Colorado; and a number of nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, one daughter, Evelyn Caroline who died in infancy, one great granddaughter, five brothers, and three sisters.

Mrs. Smith had been a member of the Missionary Baptist Church since young womanhood, her present membership being in the New Hope Baptist Church at Peace Valley, Missouri. She had worked as a volunteer for the West Plains Memorial Hospital Auxilliary for a number of years."
