Sylvester John Fagan "Jack"Sylvester John Fagan "Jack" died June 6, 2001 at the age of 91.He was born October 9, 1909 in Missouri Valley, IA, the son of Sylvester William and Mary Olson Fagan. Jack attended school in Missouri Valley and later moved with his family to Northville, SD. In 1934 the family moved west and settled in Mount Vernon. Jack worked at a number of jobs from trading horses to picking apples before enlisting in the army. During his years in the service he was stationed in the South Pacific.Jack married Melba L. Johnson, September 7, 1946 in Sedro Woolley, WA. They were happily married for 46 years before Melba died in 1992. For many years Jack worked out of the local Labor Union in Mount Vernon. He worked at a variety of jobs, which included diamond drilling on Diablo and Ross Dams, the construction of the Shell and Texaco refineries and building power lines throughout Washington and Oregon. Later in life he sold manufactured homes in Burlington and Everett. Jack was an avid gardner and always enjoyed sharing his produce with family and friends. He was also an amusing storyteller and will be best remembered for sharing tales of his life's adventures.Jack is survived by two daughters and one son, Carol Fawcett and her husband Steve of Marysville, Cecilia "Ceci" Smith of Sedro Woolley, and John Fagan and his wife Wendy of Lake Stevens; five grandchildren Paul and Julia Smith, Rebecca and Allison Fawcett and Ashley Fagan; one great-grandchild Diego Smith; two sisters and one brother, Gertrude Burke, Teresa DeMeyer and Ed Fagan.He was preceded in death by his wife Melba; two brothers Miles and Joe Fagan; three sisters Cecilia Hoellein, Catherine Olsen and Agnes Fagan. Jack was a devout Catholic and most recently was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Sedro Woolley.A Memorial Mass will be held Monday June 11, 2001 at 11:00am at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Sedro Woolley, WA, Father Robert Tomkins officiating.The family suggests memorials to a favorite charity of your choice.Services and arrangements under the care of Lemley Chapel, Sedro Woolley, WA. .
