"Three Deaths at Brookhaven
[Special to the Picayune]
.....
Dr. R. J. Applewhite, son of Sheriff R. R. Applewhite, of this county, died late yesterday evening at the residence of his father. Dr. Applewhite was a graduate of the University of Mississippi and Tulane Medical College, New Orleans, and was a bright, promising young man, beloved and respected by all. He had a host of friends here who mourn his untimely end. He had just started the practice of his profession, and in all probability his zeal for the welfare of his patients contributed to his death. He died of consumption. He leaves a father and brother, Lieutenant Applewhite, of the United States army, now stationed in Georgia."
