CANTON - Arlene I. Barker, 81, formerly of Canton, died at 4:25 p.m. Thursday, March 23, 2000, at Knox County Nursing Home in Knoxville, where she was a resident.
Born Dec. 8, 1918, in Lincoln, Neb., to Lester Guy and Zella Wright Cook, she married Melvin Barker on Dec. 25, 1941, in Canton. He died May 11, 1988.
One sister also preceded her in death.
Surviving are three daughters, Janice (Mrs. Larry) Payne of St. Charles, Mo., Joyce Taylor of Oneida and Marilyn (Mrs. Sheldon) Jones of Huntsville; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
A member of the AARP, she worked at Canton Stationery for many years.
She was a member of the United Methodist Women and ''Keep Climbing'' Sunday school class, both in Canton.
She was a volunteer for Christian Services and other organizations at Shields Chapel Church.
Services will be 1 p.m. Monday at Murphy-Sedgwick Memorial Home, where visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday. The Rev. Joseph Ewoodzie will officiate. Burial will be in White Chapel Memory Gardens.
