CANTON -- Avis Barker, 56, of Champaign, formerly of Canton, died at 2:51 a.m. Friday, July 2, 1999, at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana.
She was born July 2, 1943, in Canton to Avin L. and H. Fredrecia Schissler Eagleston.
Surviving are her mother of Canton; two sons, Will of Champaign and Thomas of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; and one daughter, Alison Barker of Plantation, Fla.
She was preceded in death by her father.
She was a member of Champaign Kiwanis and University Place Christian Church, its Karen Circle and Religious Workers Association. She was also a member and treasurer of Christian Women's Fellowship.
She attended Eastern Illinois University, Parkland College, the University of Cincinnati, the University of Illinois, and the Christian Theology Seminary.
She was a member of the Jefferson and Robeson elementary school district boards in Champaign. She also worked as a health information services technician at Carle Foundation Hospital. Also, she was a minister.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at her church. The Rev. Deborah Owen will officiate. Graveside rites will be at 2:45 p.m. Tuesday at White Chapel Memory Gardens in Canton. The Revs. Deborah Owen and Dean Bucalos will officiate. Visitation will be from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. Monday at Morgan Memorial Home in Savoy and 30 minutes before services at the church.
Memorials may be made to the Ministerial Scholarship Fund in her name at her church or to the Champaign school district.
