JOSEPH RANK, 50, IS FOUND DEAD IN MILWAUKEE
Former Local Man Victim Of Asphyxiation, Which Is Termed Accidental

Joseph Rank, 50, who left Manitowoc 15 years ago to locate at Milwaukee, was asphyxiated, apparently while he was sleeping, in his rooming house there Sunday.

News of the death of Mr. Rank was received here last night in telegrams to his brother, Louis Rank, 1914 Washington street. The latter at once made preparations to bring the body of his brother to this city for burial.

The Milwaukee report today said that the death of Joseph Rank was accidental. Intense heat coming from his room yesterday afternoon attracted the attention of another roomer. The latter called the landlord, Henry Tschurwald. They forced the door of Rank's room. He was unconscious on the bed, and a gas heater was going in the room.

It was believed that in some manner the flame of the heater had been extinguished and the gas escaped into the room where Rank was sleeping.

Was Accidental
He was pronounced dead on entrance to the County Emergency hospital at Milwaukee. The coroner said that Rank's death was accidental and due to exhaustion of the oxygen in the room.

Joseph Rank was born on a farm in Calumet county a short distance north of the village of Brillion 50 years ago. When still a small boy his parents moved to this city and the deceased grew to manhood here. He engaged in business in this city and a little over 15 years ago moved to Milwaukee where he has since been located.

Two brothers, two sisters and a daughter, Evelyn, survive.

Funeral rites will take place on Tuesday at 10 a.m. at the St. Boniface Catholic church. Interment will be at Calvary cemetery.
