Richard Days, 75, of Garfield Ave., Carrolton, died early Monday morning in Aultman Hospital at Canton following a courageous battle with cancer.
Born Sept. 18, 1931, in Wadsworth, O., he was a son of the late Earl and Anna Rood Days. Richard was a retired employee of B & S Fabricating of Carrollton. He was an Army veteran of the Korean Conflict where he received both the Medal of Honor and the Purple Heart Award.
He was a member of the Christ Community Church in Dellroy, the Carrollton VFW and the DAV. Richard enjoyed Barbershop singing, plaing the organ and fishing. However, his greatest pastime was the time spent with all of his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, the former Shirley Cummins, whom he married Sept. 29, 1951; tow sons and daughters-in-law, Richard and Linda Days of Millersburg and Rodney and Connie Days of Carrollton; five grandchildren, Heather Kennedy, Shane, Eliza, Evan and Emmy Days; two great- grandchildren, Ethan and Sam Kennedy; two sisters, Marilyn fulton of Wadsworth and Dorothy Eggeman of Texas.
He was preceded in death by one son, Randy in 1977.
Funeral services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the Christ Community Church at Delroy with Pastor Ron Silver officiating. Burial will follow in the Westview Cemetery at Carrollton where military honors will be provided by the VFW, American Legion and DAV. Visitation will be Tuesday evening (today) from 6 to 8 p.m. in Sweeney-Dodds Funeral Home of Carrollton.
