MUNCIE--Elaine B. "Cissy" Hanley, 79, died at her residence after a brief illness. Cissy was a loving mother and grandmother and generous friend to all she knew.
She was born in Akron, OH, the daughter of Harry and Edith Carroll Bowers, and moved to Indiana as a child. She graduated from Kokomo High School, attended Indiana University, and spent most of her life in Muncie.
Cissy was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Friends of the Muncie Public Library, Riley Jones Club, Alpha Chapter of Psi Iota Xi Sorority, Delta Delta Delta Sorority, Art Students League, Conversation Club, and was president of Psi Iota Xi Sorority Day Nursery.
Surviving are three children, Carol H. Hosford (husband-Bill) of Indianapolis, Marshall S. Hanley (wife-Nancy) of Indianapolis, and Mark A. Hanley (wife-Lola) of Tampa, FL; five grandchildren, and a sister, Carol Martin, Anderson.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Marshall E. Hanley, a prominent Muncie attorney, in 1981, and her parents.
The family wishes to publicly express its thanks and love to Vicki Hartley, Cissy's caregiver and friend.
A memorial service will be held at noon Thursday in The Meeks Mortuary Chapel with the Rev. Ron Naylor officiating. A private burial will be held in Beech Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until the hour of service Thursday at the mortuary. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society, 2831 N. Oakwood Ave., Muncie, IN 47304 or the The Little Red Doory, in care of Cancer Services of Delaware County, 401 W. Jackson St., Muncie, IN 47305.
