(1896 - 1974)

Walter M. Raven, 77, of Athelstane, Wis., formerly of Manitowoc, died Friday at the Veterans Hospital at Wood, Wis.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Schneider-Mittnacht Funeral Home, and at 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul Catholic Church, Manitowoc, with Rev. Duane Dionne, celebrant, and Deacon William Klein, Liturgist. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Manitowoc, with military graveside rites by the VFW Drews-Bleser Post No. 88 of Manitowoc.

Mr. Raven was born Dec. 18, 1896, at Jackson, Minn., son of the late Louis and Meta Hansen Raven. He was educated in Barron County and served in the U.S. Army during World War I, until 1918. He married Marie Yeoman May 3, 1923. He was employed at Manitowoc Shipbuilding Inc. and later was a self employed builder. His wife preceded him in death April 30, 1965. He was a member of the VFW Drews-Bleser Post.

Survivors include two sons, Thomas, of Kenosha and Gerald, of Cherokee, Iowa; two daughters, Mrs. Gerald (Jeanne Marie) Rank, of Waterloo, Iowa, and Mrs. James P. (Marguerite) O’Hearn, of Milwaukee; three brothers, Henry, of Manitowoc, Louis, of Park Falls, Wis., and Raymond, of Montana; three sisters, Mrs. Anna Smith, of Detroit, Mrs. Florence Hahn, of Evansville, Ind., and Mrs. Ella Krahembuhl, of Barron, Wis; 18 grandchildren and a great grandchild.

Friends may call at Schneider-Mittnacht Funeral Home from 3 to 9 p.m. Monday, where a prayer service will be held at 7 p.m. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer society for leukemia research.
