Youth Suffocates In Bed Saturday

MANITOWOC—
Philip James Reed, 19, of D-9-L, Custerdale, suffocated in his bed early Saturday morning, Coroner Theodore Teitgen announced.

The coroner said Reed was subject to epileptic seizures, and early Saturday his mother found him on the floor in his bedroom. She assisted him back into bed and two hours later he was found dead.

Reed has been subject to spells and was found on a couple of occasions collapsed on the street.

A son of Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Reed he was born in Manitowoc in 1933.

Survivors are the parents, three brothers and five sisters.

Funeral plans are incomplete and will be announced by the Pfeffer Funeral Home.

Funeral services for Philip J. Reed, 19, of D-9-L Custerdale, who died Saturday were held at 8:30 a.m. Monday at the Pfeffer Funeral Home, Manitowoc and at 9 a.m. at St. Paul Catholic Church, Manitowoc. The Rev. Clement Kern officiated and burial was in Calvary Cemetery, Manitowoc.

He was born in Manitowoc in 1933, son of Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Reed, attended the Washington Junior High School and Vocational School and was employed by the Holland Furnace Company. He enlisted in 1951 and was honorably discharged in 1952.

Survivors are the parents; three brothers, Bernard Jr., and Edward of Manitowoc, Morris, a staff sergeant in U.S. forces in Germany; five sisters, Mrs. Elwin Schroeder and Mrs. Lloyd VanDynhover of Kaukauna and Mrs. Louis Smith, Mrs. Vernon Holschbach and Miss Elaine of Manitowoc.

The rosary was recited at 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
