James C. Reed, 72, of 1112 S. 20th St., Manitowoc, died Monday evening at Veterans Hospital, Wood, Wis.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Pfeffer Funeral Home and at 10:30 a.m. at St. Boniface Catholic Church, Manitowoc. The Very Rev. Msgr. Alfred A. Schneider will officiate and burial will be in Manitowoc.

Mr. Reed was born Feb. 2, 1896, at Maribel, son of the late Michael and Ellen McSorley Reed. He married Mary Theresa Rank Oct. 4, 1922, at Peoria, Ill. She died April 12, 1954. He was graduated from Bradley Polytechnic Institute, Peoria, and pursued the jeweler trade from 1921 to 1925 at Milwaukee, then moving to Manitowoc. He was a veteran of World War I, serving as a private first class with the 4th U.S. Infantry of the 3rd Division in the St. Miheil and Argonne, France operations and also nine months with the Army of Occupation in Germany. He was a member of the Holy Name Society of St. Boniface church and World War I Barracks 2565.

Surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Mary E. Long and Mrs. Henry P. Walsh, of Chicago and a brother, Hugh P. Reed, of Long Island, N.Y.

Friends may call at the funeral home after 4 p.m. Thursday where the Rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. by the Holy Name Society.

Military rites at graveside will be by the American Legion Drews-Bleser Post No. 88.
