Alfred D. "Duke" Reilly, age 81, of 724 N. 7th St., Manitowoc, passed away on Monday, Nov. 24, 2008, at Aurora Medical Center, Two Rivers, following a courageous battle with cancer.

He was born on March 24, 1927, in Grimms, son of the late William and Flora M. (Ayotte) Reilly. Duke attended Maple Grove School.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving during World War II in the Pacific Theatre, and also assisted at Pearl Harbor.
On Nov. 26, 1947, he married the former Ellen Hoppe. Duke was a brick layer for 48 years, and worked on every school in Manitowoc except one, and also worked on the Holiday Inn, Manitowoc Ice and the Manitowoc County Jail. He was a member of the Brick Layer Union and Eagles Aerie 706. Duke was an avid cribbage player and had the perfect hand at Westfield when owned by Mike Meyer. He was also a fabulous gardener and enjoyed woodcrafts. Duke enjoyed playing and later watching softball games especially when his grandchildren were involved.

Survivors include his wife: Ellen Reilly, of 61 years, Manitowoc; a daughter and son-in-law: Coleen and Dan Hodas, Manitowoc; three sons and daughters-in-law: Michael and Patti Reilly, Newtonburg, Pat Reilly and special friend, Julie, Manitowoc, and Sean and Debbie Reilly, Manitowoc; grandchildren: Marc (Sara) Holsen; Michael Kennedy; Tiffany (Ryan) Metzger; Andrew and Amy Reilly; Kasey Reilly and Taylor Brice; Trudy and Jeremy Reilly; Katlyn and Roger Reilly; Amanda and Ted Adelmann; and Trisha (Dave) Wojtowicz; eight great-grandchildren; two sisters and one brother-in-law: Adeline Hebert, Manitowoc, and Marion and Tom Schmitt, Manitowoc; three sisters-in-law: Gerri Heinz and her husband, Bob, Lena; June Reilly, Manitowoc; and Marge Reilly, Manitowoc; and two brothers-in-law: Ralph Hoppe and his wife, Mary, Ohio, and George Qualman, Manitowoc. Nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive.

He was preceded in death by two brothers: William and Richard Reilly; two sisters and two brothers-in-law: Jeanette Qualman; Bernadine (Gene) Mott; and Richard Hebert.

A memorial service will be held at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 26, 2008, at The Pfeffer Funeral Home & Cremation Care Center, Manitowoc. Officiating at the memorial service will be Deacon Al Boeldt. Cremation has occurred.

The family will greet relatives and friends at The Pfeffer Funeral Home & Cremation Care Center, Manitowoc, from 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 26, 2008, until the time of service at 4:30 p.m.

Duke's family would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff at Aurora Medical Center, Two Rivers, for the compassionate care given to him.
