JOHN RHODE, 70, DIES THIS NOON
Town of Newton Resident Was Ill For Only a Week.


John Rhode, 70, pioneer town of Newton resident, died this noon after a week’s illness. He was stricken with an attack of appendicitis and underwent an operation.

Prior to this illness, Mr. Rhode had never been seriously ill. He was born in the town of Newton and spent his entire life on the farm. For the past few years he has been retired, living on the homestead farm on Route 2, Manitowoc with his son Anton S. Rhode.

The deceased was married in Newton to Miss Mary Kerscher who died two years ago. Survivors are two sons, Anton of Newton and Irvin of Whitelaw, and a daughter, Mrs. Charles Hampke, town of Kossuth.

Funeral arrangements have not been completed.

Funeral Services For John Rhode Thursday

Funeral services for John Rhode, 70, who died yesterday, will be held Thursday at 9:30 a.m. from the home of his son, Anton Rhode, Route 2, town of Two Rivers and at 10 a.m. from the St. Mark’s Catholic church in Two Rivers. Interment will be at the Calvary cemetery here.

The deceased was born in the town of Newton in 1864 and married Mary Kerscher in 1885. His wife died in 1931. Since then he has made his home with his son Anton.

Survivors are a daughter, Mrs. Charles Hampke, Kossuth, two sons, Anton of Route 2 and Ervin of Whitelaw and two Step-brothers, Andrew Frozina of Newton and Joseph Matechekk of Athens, Wis.
