Grace Curtis Smith, 67, former longtime resident of West Milford, N.J., and Ocala, Fla., passed away at home after a long battle with lewy body dementia, with her family at her side, on Monday, Oct. 20, 2008.

Mrs. Smith was born on Sept. 21, 1931, in Kenilworth. She was the sixth of seven children born to Reginald Gerard Curtis and Elizabeth Ellen Bryant Curtis. A secretary, devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, she will be deeply missed by all those who love her, including her family and many lifelong friends. She was a 1949 graduate of Butler High School and married her classmate, Donald Francis Smith, on March 31, 1950. Mrs. Smith worked for many years as a secretary for the West Milford Township School District. She was an avid gardener who loved exercise, hard work and the outdoors. Grace was friendly, warm and loved by all who knew her. She was known to always be the first person in the neighborhood to jump to someone else's aid when they were going through a difficult time, and was always a source of strength to others.

Mrs. Smith was predeceased by her husband, Donald, and five of her six siblings.

She is survived by her daughters, Gladys Smith Stefany of Milford, Kathleen Smith Imparato of Wantage, and Gwendolyn Smith Bills of Warwick, N.Y.; her grandchildren, whom she loved with all her heart, Mary Bills Sharp of Olympia, Wash., Gregory Bills and Jason Bills of New Jersey, Ruth, Philip and Jessica Stefany of Milford, and Laura and Michelle Imparato of Wantage; and her four great-grandchildren, the greatest joys of her life, Random Water, Louisa Water and Francis Sharp of Olympia, and Ayya DeWaal of Wantage.
