On April 3, 2008, at the grand age of 93, Anna Marie Miller went to the beautiful place she said the Lord had prepared for her in heaven. She was born to Anton and Karen Hanson in Miles City on March 24, 1915, delivered by the first woman doctor in Montana, Dr. Sadie Lindberg. Anna was the firstborn of seven children. She lived several years on a homestead near Tindall, Mont. She helped get the mail for her family and neighbors on horseback.
When she and her husband were first married, they lived in Fort Peck, where he worked on the dam. Her first child, Albert Christ, was born in a trailer there.
During World War II, she followed her husband to various places in Oregon, where he worked on Air Force Bases and Navy Bases, doing construction work.
She was an independent woman. After her husband, Albert, died, she managed her rental business and did her own painting and repairs. She loved to work with her hands and took courses in auto mechanics, small engine repair and electrical wiring. But she was feminine too. She loved to wear her best clothes and hit the dance floor. She danced at least four times a week up into her 80s. She was a member of the Oaks Club for years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert F. Miller; and her brother, Oscar Hanson; and sister, Marguerite Smith. She is survived by her son, Albert C. (Mary Lou) Miller; daughter Bonnie Jean Kirwin (partner Bill); son, Melton (Karen) Miller; grandson, Clifton Miller (great-grandchildren, Tyler, Trevor and Tanner; great-great-grandchild, Emma); granddaughter, Lee Ann (Monte) Thompson; grandson, Darwin (Maggie) Miller; granddaughter Kirsten (Jeff) Reed, (great-grandchildren Mandi Jo, Levi); grandson, Sr. Master Sgt. Craig Kirwin; grandson, R.N. Kevin (Kristen) Kirwin (great-grandchildren Colton and Payton). She is also survived by her brother, Harry Hanson; brother, Melvin Hanson; brother, Clarence Hanson and sister, Alma VanTricht.
Rest in peace, Mom. We love you and will greatly miss you.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, April 5, and 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday, April 6, at Dahl Funeral Chapel. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Monday, April 7, at Dahl Funeral Chapel. Interment will be in Mountview Cemetery with a luncheon to follow. Memories and condolences may be shared with the family at www.dahlfuneralchapel.com.
