Casper was born to Anton and Anna Andersen Asbjornson, in Concord, Massachusetts on June 19, 1909. Anton was born in Norway in 1883 and Anna was born in Sweden in 1886. They immigrated to the United States in 1903.

Casper was a major league ball player spending the 1928-1929 seasons with the Boston Red Sox and 1931-1932 seasons with the Cincinnati Reds. He continued playing until 1937 in the minor leagues ending at Williamsport.
In the major leagues he was primarily a catcher and pinch hitter, and was a .235 lifetime hitter.
