Elizabeth was born at Lot 12, Concession 10, Vaughan Township, York County. She was the daughter of Robert Agar and Margaret Lawrie. The family moved to Bruce Township, Bruce County in January 1874, and Elizabeth's father died there in March of that year. Her mother married William Nicholson in 1878.

Elizabeth married Thomas Brownlee on 13 October 1886 at Bolton in Peel County.

She died on 24 November 1950 at Memorial Hospital in St. Thomas, Elgin County. Elizabeth had been residing at Aylmer, Elgin County prior to her death.

A notice of Elizabeth's death was published in the Toronto Daily Star on 25 November 1950, p. 33.
