HELD FOR MURDER AT BETHEL, MO.
Bethel, Mo., Jan 21.—Snowda VanOsdal was placed under arrest here, Sunday, charged with the murder of Lyle Barnes, 24, who was struck Saturday night during an argument between the two men, and who died Sunday night at St. Elizabeth hospital, Hannibal.
VanOsdal was arrested by Sheriff Leo Hooper of Shelby county and taken to the Macon county jail for safekeeping.
It was reported that Barnes and VanOsdal were in the Moore cafe at Bethel and that Barnes in some manner was knocked unconscious. VanOdal is charged with striking Barnes with a section of two-by-four. Barnes was taken home and when he failed to regain consciousness by Sunday morning was taken to St. Elizabeth hospital in Hannibal, where he later died.
An inquest will be held Tuesday morning at 10 in the O'Donnell funeral home in Hannibal.
Snowda VanOsdal, 35, is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Scott VanOsdal, He is married but has no children.
Lyle Barnes, son of Linnie and Lillith Milan Barnes, was born in Bethel, Mo., and had spent the greater part of his life there. He was in service but received a medical discharge. He had been employed as a trucker by Buddy Woods. Surviving are the parents, a sister, Mrs. Jim Jones of Bethelatnd six brothers, Ellis of Harvey, Ill., Ersie of Joliet, Kenneth of Galesburg, Ruseell of St Louis, Glen Barnes, who just returned home from overseas service, and Herbert at home.
Funeral arrangements had not been made Monday afternoon.

Slain Bethel Man
Bethel, Mo., Jan. 3.—Funeral services for Lyle Barnes, fatally injured here last Saturday night, were held Wednesday afternoon in the Christian church. Burial was in Mt. Salem cemetery northwest of Bethel. The Rev. Glen Rennick of Hannibal officiated.
Barnes died in St. Elizabeth hospital, Hannibal, Sunday night. A coroner's jury at Hannibal returned a verdict Tuesday that he came to his death as a result of injuries sustained when struck on the head with a stool and two-by-four wielded by Snoda Van Osdal, also of Bethel. VanOsdol is to have a preliminary hearing probably next Tuesday afternoon in the city hall in Shelbina, Mo., before Justice Tom Collins.
