Death of Dr. P. G. H. Barnett
The subject of this sketch, Dr. P. G. H. Barnett, was born in Kentucky, Dec. 11th, in 1835; settled in Knox county, Mo., in 1849, which place has been his home until death claimed him as a victim on last Saturday night the 24th inst., at 1 a.m. Dr. Barnett lived for many years at Greensburg, Knox county, where he was engaged in the practice of medicine. His reputation as a physician was equal to that of any other man in the county, and his success was such that a few years ago he was enabled to retire from the regular practice of medicine and engage largely in cattle interests in Colorado and Texas. His family has resided in Edina for several years. Dr. Barnett had been in failing health for some months past, and about the first of May he was taken with typhoid fever, of which disease he died after being confined to his bed about three weeks. On Friday before his death he expressed his desire for baptism. Accordingly Rev. Hosea Northcutt was telegraphed, and in answer came and immersed Dr. Barnett and received him into the Christian church. After a funeral discourse on Monday last, by Rev. Davis of Kirksville, his remains were laid to rest in Linville cemetery with Masonic honors at 3 p.m. The funeral services and interment were largely attended. Large delegations of the Masonic fraternity were in attendance from Kirksville, Novelty, Brashear, Greensburg, Colony and elsewhere. Thus passed from our midst in the prime of life a useful and highly respected citizen, whose life was marked by generosity and kindness to all with whom he met. He leaves a wife and one son to mourn his loss. Also an aged father and two sisters. We extend our consolation to the bereaved friends.

OBITUARY.
Dr. P. G. H. Barnett, died at his home in Edina on Sunday morning the 25th inst., after an illness of about three or four weeks, occasioned by typhoid fever. His remains were followed to their last resting place, in the Linville Cemetery, on Monday the 26th inst., by a large concourse of people including near relatives, friends, and the Masonic brethren, of which fraternity he was a devoted member, the funeral ceremonies being conducted under the auspices of Edina Lodge A. F. & A. M., assisted by visiting brethren from Kirksville, Novelty, Brashear, Colony, Newark, and Greensburg, of which the last named lodge he had been instrumental in establishing and building up. The pallbearers were Drs. Campbell, Wright, Brown, Hopkins, Heyford and Ellis. The funeral sermon was preached by the Rev. J. M. Davis, of Kirksville, in the Christian Church, to which Church organization Dr. Barnett had shortly prior to his decease became a member, and made a profession of religion. He leaves a wife and one son to mourn his loss. By industry and frugality the Dr. had amassed a comfortable fortune to bequeath his legatees. In life he was faithful and prompt, never forgetting a promise, and no malice could grow in his heart; although posessed [sic] of a strong desire to acquire this world's goods he was generous and kind, and every good and worthy enterprise elicited his strong support, and he was most especially the friend of young men who were just beginning to straggle with the world, who would often seek his friendship in a pecuniary point of view, and if worthy, would always get it. He is gone. But his memory will be cherished as a noble kind hearted upright citizen, whose faults were comparatively few, and very largely over-balanced by the good deeds that will live after him.
