George Rollins Cabe was born between the present town of Franklin, NC. and the N. GA line. He was the second oldest child of W.H.T. Cabe and Mary Elizabeth Guffey. He married Mattie L.Raines on June 8, 1896. (She was born Martha Leona Raines on 05-12-1877; d. 04-29-1902). Their children were: Vallie Mae Cabe (b.07-11-1897 -- m. Lawrence Howse on 11-10-1915); William Henry Cabe (b. 03-30-1900 -- d. 07-28-1901); and an new-born son, Pearlie Cabe (b. 04-17-1902 -- d. 05-22-1902). George left his surviving daughter, Vallie with his mother while he worked in mines in the Ducktown, NC and Young Harris, GA areas. (The Cabe families appear listed in the US 1900 Federal Census in Young Harris, GA.) The grave sites of Mattie and her two children are unknown.

Shortly after Mattie's death, George, Vallie and George's parents and most of his siblings moved to Atlanta, GA to find employment in the textile mills there. It was in this textile mill that he met Sophronia Elizabeth Dodson and they were married in 1905.

George and Sophronia's first child, Doris was born on 08-3-1906 and died 16 days later(cause was said to be a birth defect). Later George and Sophronia would have four other children; Bessie Elizabeth Cabe (b. 03-8-1908); John Hamilton Cabe (b. 09-28-1909); Ruth Cabe (b.04-16-1911); and Mary Lavina Cabe (b. 06-22-1913).

George and his family moved for a short period of time (about 1915) to Cullman County, AL. seeking farming work. It was here that his oldest daughter Vallie met and married Lawrence Howse. Vallie stayed in AL when George and the remainder of his family returned to the Atlanta area.

A great portion of George's remaining work life was as a 'share-cropper' farmer in Fulton and Clayton Counties in GA. In the latter years of his life, George lost his battle with crippling Rheumatoid Arthritis which left him in severe pain and bed-ridden.
