Barbara Joan Baldwin Ekker, age 79, died October 6, 2013 at her home in Hanksville,after a brave fought battle with breast cancer.
She was born December 28, 1933 in Fruita, Colorado, a daughter of Virgil and Lillian Falconer Baldwin. She married Jesse Gibbons Ekker, July 13,1954 in Helper, Utah. He died June 1, 1999.
Barbara was a gifted writer and wrote the Hanksville News, for the local newspapers, as well as writing and editing a local newsletter/paper. She also wrote articles in magazines about Wayne Counties and its residents. She was a prolific letter writer and kept in touch with many of her family, friends and acquaintances.

She acted as the Hanksville Sexton for the Hanksville Cemetery and documented all the burials there, which was later put on the internet by her grandson.

Barbara gathered family pictures histories about the Hanksville area and for the Ekker family, which she readily shared.

Barbara received awards for her longivity as the "Weather Woman" for Hanksville.

Barbara is survived by her children: Neva Fay and Ben Pace of Loa; Rita Ann Lewis of Hanksville; Sybil Marie and James Middleton of Florida; Justin Ekker of Hanksville; Jodi and Alan Walker of Kearns; Jason and Stacie Ekker of Teasdale; Cameron and Michaelene Ekker of Superior, Wyoming; 8 Grandchildren: Farah Pace, Jesse Middleton; Raya Ekker,
Shelby Walker, Tyler Walker, Hagan Ekker, Brielle Ekker and Allyn Ekker; 4 great-grandchildren: Marc Simmons, Tessa Simmons, Cameron Simmons and Dacey Lyman.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Bonnie Warrington.

Graveside services will be held Saturday, October 12, 2013 at 1:00 P.M.
in the Hanksville Cemetery under the care of the Springer Turner Funeral
