Sylvester R. Bonk, 61, of 1506 S. 25th St., Manitowoc, died Monday while at work at the YMCA on Lake Street.

Funeral services will be at 9:30 a.m. Thursday at Schneider-Mittnacht, Leschke-Bergner Funeral Home and at 10 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church, Manitowoc. The Rev. Casimir Tomczyk will officiate and burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mr. Bonk was born Oct. 7, 1911, at Manitowoc, son of the late Jacob and Veronica Katzka Bonk. He attended Manitowoc schools, graduating from Manitowoc Lincoln High School. He married Julia Rysticken June 30, 1945, at Manitowoc. He had been employed at Mirro Aluminum Co. and then worked as custodian at St. Mary Parish until 1971. He then was employed by Rex-Clean Inc., until the time of his death. He also worked for Pech's Food Market. He was active in baseball and softball leagues in Manitowoc as a player, coach and umpire.

Mr. Bonk was a member of St. Mary Holy Name Society and a member of St. Mary Choral Society for 25 years, charter member of St. Mary Young Men's Club and trustee of St. Mary parish for eight years.

Survivors include his wife, two sons, Robert and Peter, at home; four sisters, Miss Catherine Bonk, Mrs. Theresa Kadow and Mrs. Alvin Lewis, of Manitowoc and Mrs. Bernard Budnik, of Milwaukee; a half sister, Sophie Werner of Manitowoc, father-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Peter Rysticken, of Manitowoc. Four sisters, two half brothers and a half-sister preceded him in death.

Friends may call at the funeral home after 4 p.m. Wednesday where the Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. by Rev. Tomczyk.
