Clifford J. Briggs Sr., age 95, a resident at Shady Lane Nursing Care Center, Manitowoc, died on Wednesday morning, July 16, 2008, at Shady Lane.

He was born on Feb. 13, 1913, in Chicago, Ill., son of the late Clifford and Frances (Altenbach) Briggs. on Nov. 5, 1935, he married Regina T. Komosa at St. Mary Catholic Church, Manitowoc. She preceded him in death on June 27, 2000. Clifford and Regina lived in Manitowoc, Green Bay and Kenosha until their retirement in 1984, when they moved to Florida. Following the death of his wife, Regina, Clifford then returned to Manitowoc. Clifford was employed as a butcher with A&P Foods and also owned and operated Kenosha Ambulance for many years. While in Florida, he also operated the First Aid station at the Houston Astros spring training facilities in Kissimmee, Fla. Clifford was a member of the Manitowoc Senior Center and was a life member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Kenosha.

Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law: Rose Marie and Robert Malick, Manitowoc; one son and daughter-in-law: Clifford J. and Donna Briggs, Jr., Pleasant Prairie; five grandchildren Annette (Thomas) Wunsch; Robert (Carol) Malick; Denise (Steve) Bricco, all of Manitowoc; Jeffrey (Christie) Briggs, Frisco, Texas; and Sue Briggs, Kenosha; eight great-grandchildren: Nick (Jodie) Wunsch; Jennifer (Justin) Poggemann; Christine Malick; Liz Bricco; Tori Bricco; Alex Briggs; Mitch Briggs; and Maddie Briggs; and one great-great-grandson: Jacob Wunsch. Nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive. Clifford was preceded in death by his mother: Frances Briggs; and his wife: Regina Briggs.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 26, 2008, at St Francis of Assisi on Waldo, Manitowoc. Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial will be the Rev. Daniel Schuster. Cremation has taken place, and burial of the cremated remains will take place at St. Mary's Cemetery, Manitowoc, at a later date.

The family will greet relatives and friends on Saturday, July 26, 2008, at St Francis of Assisi on Waldo from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service at 10:30 a.m.

The Pfeffer Funeral Home and Cremation Care Center, Manitowoc, is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the third floor staff of Aurora Medical Center, Two Rivers, as well as the staffs at Shady Lane and Laurel Grove for their loving kindness shown to Clifford and his family.
