Helen B. Check, age 90, formerly of 1317 S. 25th St., Manitowoc, died early on Sunday morning, April 27, 2008, at St. Mary's of Felician Village, Manitowoc.

Helen was born Aug. 24, 1917, in Portage County, daughter of the late Dominic and Laura (Czerwonka) Bembenek. She was a graduate of Stevens Point Emerson High School. On Sept. 16, 1938, she married Charles B. Check at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Polonia. He preceded her in death on Sept. 16, 2002. Helen was a nurse's assistant at Shady Lane Nursing Home for many years. Helen loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren; she also enjoyed gardening, flowers and birds. She was longtime member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and a life member of the former St. Mary's Rosary Society.

Survivors include five daughters and four sons-in-law: Marilyn and Albin Wahlgren, Pewaukee; Joan and Clarence Trochil, De Pere; Christine and John Burkart, Manitowoc; Sandra Cardarella, Seattle, Wash.; and Patricia and Randy Grunwald, Sun Prairie; a son and daughter-in-law: Charles and Lynn Check, Mequon; 17 grandchildren: Kevin (Cathy) Wahlgren; Kurt Wahlgren; Craig (Karen) Wahlgren and Kim (Brent) Sorbet; Danny (Jacqueline) Trochil; Carrie (Brad) Churchwell; Randy (Lynn) Trochil; Jeffrey (Beth) Trochil and Amy Trochil; Ted and Matthew Burkart; Nick Cardarella and Brian (Meghan) Cardarella; Scott and Brett Grunwald; and Paul and David Check; 12 great- grandchildren; three sisters: Bertha Milanowski; Louise (David ) Stroik and Marlene Monreal; three brothers: Chester (Bernice) Bembenek; Roman (Margaret) Bembenek and Donald (Alice) Bembenek; and one sister-in-law: Sally Check. Nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive. She was also preceded in death by one sister and two brothers.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, May 1, 2008, at St. Francis of Assisi Parish - Marshall Site, Manitowoc. Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial will be the Rev. Richard Klingeisen, with burial to follow in St. Mary Catholic Cemetery, Manitowoc.

The family will greet relatives and friends at St. Francis of Assisi - Marshall Site, Manitowoc, on Thursday morning, May 1, 2008, from 9 a.m. until the time of Mass at 11 a.m.
